Shiloh Battlefield

Last night at dinner we changed our plans. Since the marina's courtesy car would be available to us all day, we decided to stay an extra day and go tour Shiloh Battlefield in Savannah, TN. In the morning we set out with Row & Gus from Summerland to go see Shiloh.

Shiloh Battlefield spans a 4,000 acre site overlooking the Tennessee River. In April 1862, 65,000 Union soldiers and 44,000 Confederate troops fought a fierce battle here that resulted in nearly 24,000 dead, wounded or missing. Shiloh Military National Park was established in 1894 to preserve the scene of this battle.

Tomorrow we'll head back out on the river. This area is currently under a frost advisory with temperatures expected to be 32-36 degrees overnight & into tomorrow morning. It's hard to believe that 2 days ago it was sunny, 85 degrees and we were swimming in the river. Now we have the heaters going and we dug out all our warm clothes. Time to head further south!

Our transportation. The car was pretty beat & made some scary noises, but got us where we wanted to go.

Perfect timing. Just as we were looking out over the river, we saw fellow loopers Serenity & Ta Ta. They left Clifton Marina this morning at 7 AM
