Columbus Marina

10/20-21/14
We wanted to get an early start to get through the lock, but fog changed our plans. Then when the fog cleared and we were ready to go a tow came along & went through the lock so we were delayed some more. We finally left the dock and went through the Wilkins Lock. We were with 3 looper boats, plus a big Marlow 62. Since we seem to have one of the fastests trawlers on the loop, the group told us to lead the way. When we got to the Amory Lock we had to wait for a northbound tow to come through. Then we got to the Aberdeen Lock and had to wait for a southbound tow to go first, which took extra long because they had to do a crew change. Finally at 5 PM we pulled into Columbus Marina. We were exhausted, as it took us all day to travel 40 miles & go through 3 locks. At least the scenery was pretty along the way.

All day we heard & saw jets flying around. Columbus Air Force Base is only a couple of miles away, and is the Nation's busiest Air Force base. The base now trains a third of all new U.S. Air Force pilots.

Tomorrow we plan to go through one lock and go to Pirate Cove Marina.

Our travel buddy, a Marlow 62. He let us lead the way all day

Big industry around here, wood mulch.

Not sure what's on the barge, but it looked interesting
