It was another beautiful day, but we wanted to get secured into a marina for the evening because very severe storms were forecasted for late afternoon & all evening. The scenery is pretty and it's easy cruising on the Tennessee River. Around 11:00 the clouds moved in and the wind really picked up. Because of the low water there aren't many marinas that we can go into. We wanted to go to Clifton Marina, but heard that it was full. Because of the storms, everyone wanted to get off the river and be secured in a marina. Al decided he would just pull into the marina, and since we were there they would find a spot for us. He was right. We got a great covered slip & Summerland was able to go right next to us. This marina normally only has room for 6 transient boats, but because of the forecasted storms, they made room for 13 boats. The woman who runs the marina is super nice, and really helped us all out.
We heard from others that the storms last night were pretty severe, but from our covered slip we never heard the storm and the boat didn't even get wet. There was even a tornado warning last night & today.
Tomorrow we plan to go further on the Tennessee River & will go through the Pickwick Landing Lock. We plan to stop at Pickwick Landing State Park Marina.
Pretty rock formations on the Tennessee River
Waters levels are now low in preparation for the winter, making it tough to find good anchorages. At summer levels this anchorage would have 5 more feet of water & would be perfect.
A bulkhead made out of old tires
Barges filled with coal.
Dredging the Tennessee River
On one side it fills barges with sand & mud, and on the other side the barges are filled with rocks
This rig looks pretty old
We were sheltered & never felt the storm
Summerland is next to us
