Trenton, Ontario

We started the day early because we wanted to travel 71 miles to Tenton, Ontario which is the start of the Trent Severn Waterway. The day started out clear, but very cool. There was almost no wind, so the water was very calm. It warmed up nicely once the sun came out in full effect.  We went to the Fraser Park Marina which is right in the heart of the town of Trenton. There are 6 other boats here that are also on "The Loop".
Al is in the cabin reengineering the couch to make it more comfortable. I'm staying out of his way & hope the project comes out ok.
The Trent Severn Waterway is made up of 44 locks, numbered 1 to 45, and spans 240 miles. Lock 29 does not exist as it was combined with 28 into a double hydraulic lock. Lock 44, Big Chute, is not really a lock, but a marine railway. It took 90 years to complete this waterway. The controlling depth of the waterway is 6 ft. For the first 35 locks we will be going up. The high water point is at Balsam Lake which is 840 ft. above sea level. Most of the locks are manually operated. There are very few that are hydraulically operated.
Tomorrow we start the Trent Severn. We get to sleep late because the locks don't open until 9am.
