Fenelon Falls, Ontario

Today was a beautiful day on the water. We went through several lakes with wide open spaces & we could go whatever speed we wanted. We went through 5 locks today, numbers 28,30,31,32 & 34, and traveled 49 miles. The water continues to become more clear & the scenery more beautiful everyday. We snaked our way through some very narrow channels made of pine-crowned islands of pink granite. We can clearly see rocks just below the surface just out of the channel. We definitely don't want to make a mistake & go outside the channel here. We're in the cottage area, and there are pretty cottages on the rock islands. We see rental houseboats everywhere. We try to steer clear of all of them. We hate to see one entering a lock with us, as they move extremely slowly and are usually sideways and out of control.

We stopped at the lock wall in Fenelon Falls. For the first time we went swimming in Canadian waters. The water was surprisingly warm. When entering the lock at Fenelon Falls a piece of wood went through the stern thruster & was turned into mulch. When Al was in the water he checked the blades, and they're all still intact. It seems to still be working fine. I guess we got lucky.

Burleigh Falls Lock 28

Waiting for the first lock of the day. Hooper was happy because the lock operator insisted that we let him loose to chase the geese away. I think Canadians hate Canadian geese more than we do!

Lovesick Lock 30  This lock is unique in that it is an island and only accessible by boat.

Buckhorn Lock 31 This is the halfway point on the Trent-Severn Waterway.
