Another hot day on the Erie Canal. We went through 4 locks today, numbers 14-17. Lock 17 is impressive. Not only is it the highest lift lock on the Erie Canal, lifting us 40.5 ft., it is one of only two locks in North America where the entrance gate is lifted above the boater. ( The other is on the Ottawa River in Canada.) The entrance has a guillotine door that raises & lowers rather than hinges open.
Once again we are seeing large amounts of debris & logs, both in front of & inside the locks. We tied up at the docks at Little Falls Canal Harbor. We have floating docks, water, electric & wifi in a little park with water fountains. At this location a 1918 Barge terminal building has been renovated into a dock masters office. We were surprised to see Amish people in this area.
There was a thunderstorm at dinner so we couldn't go into town to eat. Fortunately, our friend Demo gave us frozen Pasticcio, which is a Greek dish similar to lasagna. We heated it in the micro & dinner was served. Thanks Demo!
Tomorrow we plan to head to Utica.
