We were tired of the rough water in Petoskey Marina, so we decided to leave. The forecast showed that the wind & waves were supposed to diminish today, but would be even worse tomorrow. If we didn't leave now, we knew we would be stuck for 2 more days. We wanted to go 20 miles to the town of Charlevoix. We headed out with the wind & waves on the bow. It wasn't too bad, but we were greatful for the enclosure on the bridge, because occasionally the waves would spray water over the bimini top. Things got worse when we made the turn south for Charlevoix. Now we were taking the waves on the side, plus it looked like the wind & waves got stronger. The waves were 3ft. with occasional waves of 5-6 ft. mixed in. We were rolling side to side pretty good. Poor Hooper was just sitting in his seat drooling like a rabid dog, and giving us dirty looks. One big wave rolled us so hard that the microwave door flew open, and the heavy glass tray inside came flying out. When it hit the floor it exploded, and sent glass shards all over the cabin. We were so happy to get inside the inlet to Charlevoix, and get to some calm water, that we didn't mind cleaning up the cabin, because at least the boat wasn't rocking.
There are 8 other looper boats here, and we all met for docktails. We all shared stories of our harrowing experience on Lake Michigan. It wasn't much fun at the time, but it gave us good stories to tell at the gathering.
Charlevoix is known for " Mushroom Houses", built in the early 1900s by Earl Young, which resemble storybook fantasies of irregular stone houses with wave-like rooflines. We got to see some of the homes that were on the lake. They are very unique looking.
We plan to challenge Lake Michigan again tomorrow.
Inlet at Charlevoix
We had to wait 20 min. for the bridge to open. The chart said it had 16ft. clearance, but it was much lower.

The park had a pond filled with trout
