Hampton, VA

105 Miles of Torture!

We checked the weather last night and the forecast was good. We planned to go to Deltaville. We would have a reunion with our friends from the Great Loop, Row & Gus, on Summerland. We woke up to a small craft advisory. That was quite a change! Not only was today not looking good, but now the forecast for the rest of the week was looking even worse. We decided to head out and see how it was.
The Chesapeake wasn't great, but we were still comfortable. Things really got dicey when we crossed the opening to the Potomac River. The waves were so big that we couldn't turn back. We kept going and hoped for the best. Things got a little better once we were across the opening of the river.

We were uncomfortable and really wanted to pull into Deltaville, but knew if we stopped now, we may be stuck for a week or more. So we kept going. The waves are pretty big when our autopilot can't keep up. We were surfing the waves and rolling pretty good. As bad as it was, we decided to just keep going and get off the Chesapeake today.

We headed for Hampton, Virginia. What a relief when we got off the Chesapeake and entered the calm waters of Hampton Harbor. We plan to give ourselves a well earned day of rest and explore this town tomorrow.

Leaving Solomons early. It was calm at this point.

Smith Point Light. I was hanging on for dear life to take this picture.

Seasick Hooper. If he wasn't gold, he would be green!
