Coinjock, NC

We had a good day, but it was cold, cloudy and rainy. We had to go through our first lock of the trip. We only went up about one foot. We had to wait for the lock to open, and then we had to wait for a draw bridge, that's just past the lock to open. The lock and bridge are supposed to be timed together, but that wasn't the case today, but the wait wasn't very long.

We probably had to pass at least 10 sailboats today. As a courtesy, you're supposed to contact them, and let them know what side you'll pass on, because the channel is very narrow. We called everyone, but only one responded. They all travel slower than us, but it seems like they speed up when we want to pass.

We went to Coinjock Marina. The restaurant here is known for their prime rib, so we'll have a good dinner tonight. Hooper is hoping for leftovers!

There's a gale warning in effect tonight and into tomorrow, so we'll stay put an extra day. We don't want to attempt to cross Albermarle Sound in a gale.
