We left Fernandina Beach and crossed the border into Georgia. We anchored by Cumberland Island. Cumberland Island is Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island. I took Hooper to shore and we hiked the beautiful trails on the island in search of the wild horses. We found lots of hoof prints and manure, but we didn't see any of the horses that the island is famous for.
We then left the anchorage and headed for Jekyll Island. Jekyll Island is the smallest of Georgia's Sea Islands. We went past the Navy's King Bay Submarine Base. We stopped at Jekyll Harbor Marina. It's been unbearably hot lately, so we were excited to see that the marina had a pool. It was delightful to cool off in the pool, especially since we had the pool all to ourselves.
This ship was right outside Fernandina Marina. We heard from the Coast Guard over the VHF that it was disabled at anchor in the Intracoastal.
No horses in sight
Work being done on a submarine at the base
Bringing supplies to the Navy Base
These boats escort the submarines in and out of the inlet
It was so hot out that the pool felt amazing
Sunset with storm clouds moving in
