Ponce De Leon Inlet

4/9/15
It was another beautiful day in Florida. We traveled from the Titusville Municipal Marina to an anchorage near the Ponce De Leon Inlet. We spent the day dodging manatees. There's so much open water yet they congregate in the channel. We had to go through a narrow canal called the Haulover Canal, and it was just filled with manatees. Al kept bumping the motor in and out of gear trying to go forward while not hitting a manatee with the prop. We also saw several osprey and bright pink flamingoes.

Once the anchor was set I took Hooper in the dinghy for a run on the beach. Hooper went crazy because we came so close to dolphin with the dinghy. When he got to shore he went right in the water to swim after them. He swam as fast as he could, but never caught up with them. Finally he turned around and came back to land.

It was a great anchorage until the wind died in the middle of the night. Then we were invaded by no-see-ums. They came right through the screens to attack. We quickly shut all the hatches, but were still bitten by the ones that got in.
