Peoria

9/7-8/14
It was another beautiful morning, sunny, clear, and cool. We got a late start because we knew we would have an easy day without any locks to delay us. We went to Peoria and stayed at the free dock right in town. Fellow loopers Ta Ta & Serenity were already here. We all met for docktails in the evening. We called ahead to the next marina that we wanted to stop at, Tall Timbers, and found out that they had no room for us until Tuesday, so we decided to stay an extra day in Peoria.

Peoria is the largest city on the Illinois River and also the oldest European settlement in Illinois. It got it's name from the Peoria tribe. It is the headquarters for Catapillar Inc. Since Al used to work on so many Catapillar Marine engines, we went on a tour of the Catapillar Museum right in town. The museum gives the impression that Catapillar Diesels are the greatest and never breakdown, so I don't know why Al had to spent so much time working on them.

Tomorrow we plan to go to Tall Timbers Marina in Havana, Illinois.

Sunrise in Henry. The water is much warmer than the air, so there was fog on the surface.

Not sure if this is where tugs and barges go to die or get repaired.
