We left the dock at 8:00 A.M. with Summerland. The weather was beautiful, clear, and cool. We went through one lock today, the Starved Rock Lock ( say that 10 times fast). The lock brought us down 17 ft. and fortunately there were no barges in the lock to delay us. The scenery is improving and we're seeing much more wildlife. We saw several eagles, hawks, and lot's of white pelicans. The carp are plentiful and make quite a thud when they jump out of the water and hit the boat. There was such a loud noise today that we thought we hit a submerged log. Luckily it was only the carp hitting the hull, and no damage.
We went to the town of Henry and stayed at the Henry Harbor Marina. There's a restaurant/bar right on site and you pay the dock bill right at the bar. We rode our bikes through town, and it's really really small.
Tomorrow we plan to head to Peoria.
The scenery is getting nicer with plenty of trees, big cliffs, and corn fields.

Starved Rock Dam
Old lock wall right outside the marina. This was the first lock and dam built on the Illinois River. It was completed in 1870, and was last used in 1933.
