Man O War Cay

We went to Man O War Cay for Valentines Day. The harbor & marina are really busy, but it has a great small town vibe. Everyone is exceptionally friendly & comes right over to greet us & meet Hooper. We finally found a place in the Bahamas that has good Internet & a good clothes drier. There is one restaurant in the whole town, called the Dock & Dine, which is right at the marina. Fortunately they had really good food.

We had our first really stormy weather. There were torrential downpours Friday night & it rained off & on all day Saturday. The boat got a free wash down. Saturday night into Sunday we experienced gale force winds & the temperature dropped 15 degrees. We were so glad to be tied securely to a dock, but it still got pretty rough. We found out the next morning that a sailboat broke free at night because the chain to the mooring had snapped.

Man O War Cay is famed for it's boatbuilding & safe harbor. There is also a long ancestral heritage; 70% of the residents can trace their ancestry to the first Albury settler. The whole town is very religious & there is a total ban on the sale of alcohol in this community. So many people we've met say they came here to visit, then never left. This is an interesting place, but had a cult like feel. When I mentioned that to Al, he laughed at me, but after a few days he also felt the cult like presence here. We're leaving on Monday so we don't get swept into the cult.

We plan on heading to Marsh Harbor.
