Apalachicola

11/6-8/14
We had a great trip going to Apalachicola. We saw Cyprus swamps, a survey boat checking the depth of the waterway, crabbers checking their traps, and of course, dolphin.

We went to the municipal marina at the end of town. The slips are very narrow, so there weren't many that we could fit into, but we were able to find a good spot to tie-up. We explored the town on bycycle. The town is very small, but cute with lots of history. There are many beautiful homes, restaurants, shops and museums to explore. Apalachicola is famous for oysters, so for dinner we went to Boss Oyster. We had oysters on the half shell, fried oysters and shrimp. Dinner was great!

The next day our friends on Average Looper & Navigator arrived. We told Mark from Average Looper that we would move our boat back so he could fit, and there was one other spot that Navigator probably could get into, but they should wait for the tide to come in because the marina is shallow. So they tied up at the City Wharf right in town and we all went to lunch. After lunch the guys moved the boats over to the municipal marina. Everyone was able to fit, but the boats were packed in like sardines in a can. Later, Jan from Navigator invited everyone over to her boat for dinner. We had a great meal and really enjoyed Tom's Dirty Pirate drinks.

Tomorrow we'll head to Carrabelle. From Carrabelle we'll travel overnight 170 miles across the Gulf to Tarpon Springs. There's a good weather window for crossing the Gulf coming on Monday and Tuesday, so lot's of looper boats are headed to Carrabelle to be ready. Hopefully Hooper can handle the 18 hours that it'll take us to get across.

Apalachicola Northern Railroad Bridge (we called it the rusty ass bridge). A train uses the bridge about once a week.

Most of these boats don't move much.
